The Daming Palace was the political center and national symbol of the Tang Dynasty.With a total area of 3.2 square kilometers,it is a masterpiece of ancient Chinese palace architecture.The layout of the palace complex initiated by the Tang Daming Palace established the ancient Chinese palace system and became the model of Chinese palace architecture after the Tang Dynasty.The Daming Palace Site is the most well-preserved imperial palace site in China.It is one of the first key cultural relics under national protection.It has a high historical,scientific and artistic value and has been included in the preparatory list of China's world cultural heritage as a key project of the"Silk Road"transnational application for world heritage.
Daming Palace of Tang Dynasty is the most magnificent architectural complex in the world-famous"Three Great Buildings"(Taiji Palace,Daming Palace and Xingqing Palace)of Chang'an City of Tang Dynasty.It is an outstanding representative of the Oriental garden architecture art,an important place for the harmony of all nations of China,and known as the Oriental Temple on the"Silk Road".Since the time of Tang Zong,the emperors of successive dynasties have been listening to the government here.It is the center of the Tang Dynasty's decrees for more than 200 years.
Daming Palace was first built in the 8th year of Zhenguan(634).It was a Summer Palace built by Emperor Taizong Li Shimin for his father Li Yuan,whose original name was Yong'an Palace.The project was not completed,and Li Yuan died,so it was renamed Daming Palace in the 9th year.In the second year of Longshuo(662 years of the park),Emperor Gaozong expanded it and once renamed it Penglai Palace and Hanyuan Palace.In the first year of the Dragon(705),it was again called Daming Palace.
The Daming Palace is a trapezoidal palace with an area of 3.5 square kilometers.The layout of Daming Palace is"front facing and back bed",with the central axis extending from Danfeng Gate at the south end to Taiye Pool.The south of the palace is centered on the Hanyuan Hall,Xuanzhuang Hall and Zichen Hall of the ruling(Middle Dynasty)and Yan Dynasty(Inner Dynasty)from the south to the north.It is left and right composed of the two provinces of the central book and the lower gate and the two halls of the great culture and history.In addition,there are more than 20 buildings such as different halls,pavilions and guan.
Hanyuan Hall is the main hall of Daming Palace,where major celebrations and court meetings are held.Dian base width of eleven,nearly 76 meters,four deep,more than 40 meters,the existing 15 meters,fully reflects the"nine days lv he opened the palace,all the nations dressed in royal diadem"of the majestic momentum.The inner court in the north of the palace is the Taiyu Pond,surrounded by Sanqingdian and other building bases.In the west of the inner court,there is Linde Hall for banquets and foreign envoys.The hall is more than 130 meters long and nearly 80 meters wide.It built on the front,the middle and the rear adjacent to the three palaces,surrounded by cloisters,the scale is very grand.
In 1961,the site of Daming Palace was first announced as a key cultural relic protection site by the State Council.It is a major site protection project of world significance identified by the International Council on Monuments and Sites,and an important part of the overall application of the Silk Road for world cultural sites.As one of the key sites protection projects during the 11th Five-Year Plan period,the project will follow five principles:the combination of the protection and utilization of the large sites with the improvement of the living environment and the improvement of people's living standards;The combination of effective protection and rational utilization of cultural relic resources;Carry forward the national spirit and promote the development of culture and tourism industry.The Daming Palace National Relics Park,the core area of the project,was opened to the public in October 2010.
