Archaeological discovery of Zhongshu Province ruins in Daming Palace

In the Tang Dynasty,the central government system was composed of three provinces and six ministries,among which three provinces were Zhongshu Province,Menxia Province and Shangshu Province.The location of these official sites had never been discovered before.The Tangcheng Archaeological Team from the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences(CASS)on Monday learned that they have found the official ruins of Daming Palace for the first time,and it may be in Zhongshu of the three provinces.
The excavated site is rich in Tang culture
Chang'an,the capital of Tang Dynasty,with an area of nearly 84 square kilometers and a population of one million,was one of the world's largest and most prosperous international metropolis at that time.The Daming Palace in the northeast of Chang'an City of the Tang Dynasty was a large and magnificent building.Most of the emperors of the Tang Dynasty lived here and handled domestic affairs and foreign affairs.
According to experts,Hanyuan Hall and Xuanzheng Hall are the core areas of Daming Palace,and there are some central government agencies on both sides of the east and west.Gong Guoqiang,the leader of Tangcheng Archaeology Team,said that before the construction of Daming Palace Relics Park,the archaeological work could not be carried out due to the dense overburden of civilian buildings,which was not only a blank in the archaeological work of Daming Palace,but also a problem of constant concern in the academic circle.
Therefore,da national park in 2010,after the opening of the Tang Cheng team first temple of yuan of about 5200 square meters northwest area to conduct a comprehensive exploration,found within the scope of the journal of heritage rich in content,decided to take the region as 2011 to 2016,the focus of the archaeological excavations,approved by the state administration of cultural heritage,Tang Cheng archaeologists excavated twice in this,the excavated area of 200 square meters,only 2011 found channels,roads,and for a period of rammed earth wall;In 2012,the excavation area covered 1300 square meters,and an incomplete courtyard site was found.This excavation revealed a total of six rammed earth foundation sites,and two east-west rammed earth walls and one drainage ditch were found in the southwest corner of the excavation area.

Experts speculate that the official site is suspected to be in the province of Zhongshu

According to historical records,Zhongshu Province and Menxia Province are distributed on the east and west sides in front of Xuanzengdian,and the area excavated this time is located on the west side of Xuanzengdian,so experts speculate that Zhongshu Province may be one of the three provinces.
The unearthed cultural relic handprint brick can trace the quality source
During the excavation of the official site,experts found hundreds of cultural relics,of which more than 100 have been restored.These cultural relics are mainly architectural components,such as lotus tile,lotus square brick,green stick tile,long handprint brick,as well as the official dishes,white porcelain bowls,black glazed porcelain injection pot,etc.
Among them,a few pieces are very special,at the bottom of a white porcelain bowl,clearly written on the Chinese character"official".Tan Chong-li,an archaeologist,said it was specially fired for the royal family.In addition,they found on some of the tiles the Tianbao and Kaiyuan nicknames of Li Longji,Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty,so we can know when he was fired.Archaeologists also found a black Weiqi chess piece.White Weiqi pieces were previously found in Daming Palace.Experts speculate that the black Weiqi pieces were made of black jade or black stone.And more special is a handprint brick,do not look down upon this handprint brick,if there is a quality problem,can find a manufacturer or craftsman through the handprint on the brick.In order to ensure quality at that time,some hand prints,some engraved with the name of the craftsman,once the quality of the problem,you can find the source.

The night shift is mentioned in Bai Juyi's poem
As for Zhongshu Province,it also appeared in the poems of the great poet Bai Juyi of the Tang Dynasty.The book Zhongshu Dreams of Zhongzhou at Night describes that Bai Juyi dreamed of Zhongzhou when he was working the night shift in Zhongshu Province.(Poem:Your Excellency dreams before the lamp,traveling in Banan city.Find flowers to ferry,find the temple to the mountain.River color clear green,the ape voice is still sad.No bell alarm sleep,but not on the east tower.
The poet Du Fu also wrote a poem called"Spring Sub Zuo Province"(Zuo Province means"under the door").(Poem:"Hidden in the twilight,chirping birds."Star in ten thousand households move,the moon near the nine xiao.He who stays awake listening to the key thinks of the jade Ke because of the wind.Ming Dynasty has a matter,several ask how night.",which describes Du Fu on the night shift when the reality of the night sleep,performance of his official diligence,dutiful loyalty,wholeheartedly for the country's spirit.
According to historical records,in May of the second year of De(757),Du Fu was named Zuojiayi by Emperor Suzong of the Tang Dynasty,and he was called"Du jiayi"in his death.In feudal times,the advisory organs were paid by a group of counselors,officials,and officials(belonging to the lower ranks and the middle books).Their job was to find faults with the emperor,which was similar to the supervision departments of today.
Du Wenyu,vice president of the Chinese Society of Tang History and a professor at Shaanxi Normal University,said that working night shifts in the Tang Dynasty was similar to the situation today.For example,temporary business required overtime work,and officials were also required to work during normal holidays.
