Although the term is rarely used in our daily life,on the Silk Road,it became an important hub connecting each city,not only for the rest and lodging of the coming and going merchants,but also,most of all,for the trading of goods.So,on the route from Samarkand to Bukhara,there were more than two dozen post stations(one every 20 to 22 kilometers on average)on the ancient Silk Road,built at different times,mostly during the 10th to 17th centuries,but only three sites have been discovered and preserved today.
